Garlin Hackney
is the man with the plan behind the persona of Hack and The
57’s. A member of the rockabilly hall of fame since 2000.
It’s hard to believe this is this is Hackney’s first album.
He has been a fixture
on the nightlife scene in and around “Hot lanta” GA since the 1970’s. He
has worked with and been in the backing bands for some of today’s hottest
country artist.
That being said, this
is not a cry in your beer country album. One of the standout cuts on this
freshman release is track 2,”Let’s Have A Party” . Straight
out of the gate this is one driving song! Hackney delivers a great vocal
cut sounding much like a white Little Richard. Next, track 5 is a catchy
little number “She’s Hot (She Knows It)” .This one reminds
me of ZZ Top’s “Tube Steak Boogie” without the
distortion. Hackney plays a hot rockabilly guitar solo in this one almost
like Michael J Foxx in “Back to the Future”. Track 7”Old
Square Bottle”, is a upbeat
song that could easily be on any sound track from 1957. Both track 7 and
track 9,”Rocking Jerry Lee” feature Don Bradley on the
keyboard. You don’t even have to close your eyes to hear “The
Killer” Jerry Lee in this guy! Absolutely great piano work! Track
9 also has a sax solo that reminds me quite a bit of “John Cafferty
and the Beaver Brown Band”.
Over all this cd stays
true to it form. That good time feel good music from the 50’s we now call
rockabilly. A party from first cut to last!
