Band Name: Stereo South Biography: "Fueled only by these words" , a line taken directly from the opening track of their debut CD Justamere Road, describes in perfect honesty that which drives Stereo South past cookie-cutter emo pop, and into the indie-rock world of tin gods and toads. An affirmation of their skills, these twelve songs display the band's talent for crafting timeless-tales of life, love and the lack there of; layered between driving rhythms, memorable hooks and strong melodies. Singer/guitarist Don Meehleis and high school friend and drummer Ron Kurek have been bandmates since the mid-90's. Working their way up from the all-ages suburban scene, and into the bar/club circuit, they crossed paths early on with bassist Greg Mytych. Another product of the Chicago music scene, Mytych reunited with Meehleis in early 2001 when they were drafted as the fresh-blood half of veteran punk band Horace Pinker. Stereo South play a style of music that melds their punk rock beginnings with influential artists like Bob Dylan and The Beatles, Stereo South create music that is quickly being recognized for it s ability to cross genres and attract fans of diverse musical tastes. Justamere Road, was recorded at Atlas Studios in Chicago with Matt Allison engineering and co-producing along with the band. Allison is most well-known for his work with punk bands like the Alkaline Trio, Duvall (Smoking Popes) and The Lawrence Arms. After a successful Midwestern tour in advance of the Justamere Road release, Stereo South traveled throughout much of the region in 2004, promoting the new album and expanding their fan base at every juncture. The 2005 year will keep them just as busy with promoting and performing, as well as beginning plans for a follow-up release. With their determination as a band, some label support, and a great network of fans and friends across the country; Stereo South will continue with their hard-working habits of writing and playing music that influences and inspires listeners of all ages.
